Open pit coal mine. Sherritt Coal is Canada's largest thermal coal producer, with nine surface mines located within Saskatchewan and Alberta. Poplar River mine is located 200 km southwest of Regina, SK near Coronach. The stripping dragline operated mine produces approximately 3.4 million tonnes per year. Poplar River offers unique opportunities with two draglines and their own private rail line.
