Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption
Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing
Redirect inappropriate behaviors by using positive strategies to clients who have dementia and memory problems
Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients
May perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, assisting in the administration of medications, collecting specimens, and obtaining vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, respirations, and pulse rate under the general direction and delegation of home care agency supervisor or nurse
May perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes, making beds, and environmental sanitation including mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing most contact surfaces.
Provide activities to promote mental and physical functions such as, but not limited to low impact exercises, puzzles, bingo, walking, gardening, making conversations, baking, arts and crafts.
May perform specialized care such as application and care of anti-embolic stockings, ostomy care, insulin pen administration, and indwelling catheter care if training was accomplished with and properly delegated by the supervisor or nurse
Refer to supervisor or nurse of any problems or conflicts or concerns that are beyond the duties of a home support worker
Host or lead in the celebration of special occasions and holidays like birthdays, Canada Day, Saskatchewan Day, etc.
Perform weekly inventory of supplies and report shortage to the supervisor or nurse which includes groceries and clients personal comforts
Able to call to pharmacy for delivery of medication refills
Report near-missed, actual and foreseeable incidents promptly to the supervisor or nurse
