Brief Overview:
The Metis Nation  Saskatchewan (MNS) is seeking a qualified and knowledgeable individual to fill the role of Food Security Coordinator. Under the supervision of the MNS Conservation Program Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating activities and communication among the MNS, its citizens, community partners, all levels of government Ministries and departments and other relevant stakeholders to advance food security priorities.
The ideal candidate will lead in empowering Metis communities to contribute to their own food sovereignty, to produce food locally, to encourage the eating of traditional country foods and promote the continuation of traditional food sharing networks. This will be done through increasing public awareness about identified barriers, providing ongoing training, and advocating for local needs and challenges. Remote work and travel in remote Saskatchewan Mtis communities is a noted priority.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, coordinate, and manage the logistics of country food and food security initiatives, including supply sourcing, procurement, and distribution.
Advocate for and establish a common understanding of Metis citizen needs, priorities, interests, and concerns on food sovereignty with a strong focus on high-risk northern communities.
