Grounded in First Nation culture and values and drawing on personal strengths and traditions of families, the Maternal Child Health Worker (MCHW) will support cultural pre- and post-natal care, traditional parenting support and practices, breastfeeding education, participation in ceremonies, land-based activities and FASD education and support.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Establish a trusting and supportive relationship with prenatal and postnatal clients
Encourage and promote healthy lifestyle choices
Provide cultural support with access to Elders, Parent Mentor, Traditional Parenting, and ceremonies
The MCH worker will implement prevention programs through mentorship with pre/post- natal clients for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
Assist in linking pre/post-natal women to supports and services available to them locally, regionally, and provincially.
Be knowledgeable about trauma informed nutrition.
Assist in increasing immunization rates by providing information, resources, invitations, and school-aged immunization consents.
Provide cooking classes for prenatal and breastfeeding Moms and their partners every 2 weeks.
Participate in the wrap around process with clients and their families.
Providing opportunities for new moms and their families re: Birth Registration, birth certificates.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work assignments.
