Position Summary
The Recreation Therapy Assistant is committed to and models the Mission, Vision and Values of Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre (SACC) ensuring the provision of the highest standard of care and services. The Recreation Therapy Assistant plays an important role in promoting a compassionate, physical, and psycho-social environment for the residents. Your role is to seek to reduce depression, stress and anxiety in the life of each resident and help them build confidence and socialize in our community. You are an advocate, and role model to others in relationship building, helping people become well-known in the community, and ensuring that residents have meaning and purpose and are the decision-makers in their daily lives. As part of the Recreation team your role is to enhance residents quality of life (mental, emotional, physical, spiritual) by providing organized therapeutic recreation and leisure activities for the residents of Sunnyside
Responsibilities
    Assist in conducting activity and leisure programs.
    Assist in recreational outings involving residents, staff and volunteers.
    Assist with set up for activities area by moving furniture, equipment and crafts or games.
    Facilitate the activity and encourage and assist with clients/patients/residents interaction.
    Porter clients/patients/residents to and from event.
    Care for pets and plants in the recreation work area, if applicable.
    Assist with the decoration of bulletin boards and common areas for special occasions.
    Provide assistance to daily living (feeding, dressing and personal care) when required.
    Assist residents at meal times by setting up and feeding when necessary.

Preference will be given to Students currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Recreation Therapy program or closely related.
