Description
Vocational Counsellor Purpose: To facilitate transitional planning for students with disabilities who wish to participate in post secondary education Responsibilities: Mentorship & Facilitation Building open, trusting and respectful relationships with the person seeking support. oReach out to the person seeking support to encourage their participation to the extent necessary for success using a person centered approach. oLead the development of action plans relating to the goals and desired outcomes of the person seeking support including measurable milestones, timelines and steps using a person-centered approach. oSupport the person seeking service to access and manage resources from community agencies and service providers. oAssist the person seeking support to develop personal responsibility skills, self-management skills, and insight to disability management as it pertains to their goals. Community Networking and Partnerships oAttend appointments and personal planning conferences in support of the person seeking support as requested by the person. oProvide access to formal and informal personal, educational and career assessment tools and processes. oEducate post secondary institutions and employers about their duty to provide accommodations in the classroom and workplace. Skills and Experience: Personal and professional values consistent with the Independent Living philosophy. ?Knowledge, skills and abilities developed through life experiences as a person with a disability and/or an awareness of issues experienced by persons with disabilities that impact employability and self-sufficiency. ?Independent initiative and ability to be proactive in a team environment. ?Ability to use the MS Office package, internet and e-mail applications. Qualifications ?Knowledge of community agencies and programs and the ability to build solid partnerships. ?Strong emphasis on the combination of experience and training
