The Collections Assistant will perform a variety of collections related tasks, including: re-housing archival material; digitizing video footage from an obsolete format; assistance in the preparation of a temporary external exhibit; scanning, description and care of archival photographs; organization of storage rooms. The successful candidate will also be involved in aspects of the museum's visitor services component. You will be part of a team providing a variety of outreach programs in the community including tours of Swift Current's downtown core and be the face of the museum at public festivals and events. As well you will assist in the operation of a museum gift shop.
As the ideal candidate, you will:
. Be available to work days, evenings and weekends up to 35 hours/week
. Possess a valid driver's licence
. Have knowledge of Western Canadian History and our natural environment
. Have the ability to lift an move items of up to approximately 20 Kilograms
. Be self-motivated and a creative thinker
. Communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
. Be able to answer, refer or act on a wide variety of enquiries in an efficient, courteous, discreet and tactful manner.
. Have excellent organizational skills, provide outstanding customer service, and have the ability to speak to a variety of audiences.
. In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be working towards a Diploma or Bachelor degree in museum studies, history, or a related discipline.
. You will be required to wear and maintain a Museum supplied uniform or costume.
. This position requires a Criminal Records Check as well as a Vulnerability Sector Check.
All potential candidates must be registered with Young Canada Works and have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the Young Canada Works job, and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the Young Canada Works job.
