Description

RQHR Communications Department requires the temporary contract services of a communications consultant with significant expertise in media relations for a one year period with the possibility of extension. Reporting to the Executive Director, Communications, the consultant will support RQHRs full-time media relations consultant in fulfilling these duties:
- responding to media inquiries;
- preparing for and supporting media events and scrums;
- preparing and distributing news releases and public announcements;
- liaising with other partners in joint announcements; and
- providing other media relations and communications support to RQHR as required.
   The consultant must be knowledgeable about the Regina areas media and the needs and demands of a media relations support role, particularly through experience in a large public sector organization. The consultant must be able to manage events and announcements independently. Sound judgment is required, and knowledge of RQHR and the provinces health care system are assets which will be keenly sought.
The abilities for this position are typically obtained through a degree in journalism and subsequent experience as both a member of the working media and in a media relations role for at least three years. Candidates with blended experience outside of this qualification may also be considered.
This is an out-of-scope position and may require occasional work on evenings and weekends. The consultant will also be required to share on-call communications duties with four other communications consultants on a rotating basis. An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
