Description
School Liaison Coordinator will support high-risk youth whom are coming out of custody in their school placement. They will work closely with the Mentor Manager, youths supports and schools to support school placements. Once the youth is released back into the community, it will be the responsibility of the School Liaison Coordinator to motivate the youth to school. This may include providing transportation or working with a team of supports to come up with innovative solutions to roadblocks which may be deterring the youth from attending.
Role:
Build relationships with the youth and their families (and/or alternative supports)
Become knowledgeable with alternative school programming and options
Build relationships with teachers, support staff and Community Youth Workers; working closely with and providing support to them when needed.
Seek out youth when they are not attending their school placements
Assist the youth in transportation to programming and activities
Maintain data, records of youth/mentors, compile statistics, gather qualitative data, maintain contractual paperwork i.e. renewing contracts, addresses
Consideration will be given to candidates of First Nations ancestry. Suitable candidates will have knowledge in the Education field as well as working with youth considered to be at-risk. Typically this knowledge will be achieved through a bachelors degree in a relevant field (i.e. Education). Work experience in the Education field as well as life experience will be considered an asset. Candidates must be responsible and mature adults who are sincerely interested in engaging youth with their energy. Candidates must also possess a class 5 drivers license, provide a clean criminal record check, have access to a vehicle and provide a drivers abstract.
