Description

The Ministry of Environment, Fire Management and Forest Protection Branch, is seeking a self-motivated, organized, results oriented individual to help organize and lead the Fire Center Duty Office functions headquartered at the La Ronge Fire Centre.

As the Fire Center Duty Officer, you will supervise fire center support staff, while working cooperatively with the Provincial Fire Center and reporting fire bases, by assembling, monitoring and adjusting the daily fire preparedness plan for the area to ensure effective fire suppression delivery.

Additionally, you will:
develop and monitor the daily base initial attack and air tanker alerts for fire area;
work closely with the Area Fire Bases and Provincial Fire Duty Officer to ensure that daily area preparedness plans are established and met;
review, compile and disseminate daily fire and flight reports to the Provincial Fire Center;
interpret weather data and fire indices and relay required information to base staff on potential weather situations and expected fire behavior;
provide human resource management activities including leading and supervising several employees; and
complete other administrative functions.
Working conditions are mainly in an office environment but can extend to the field environment to provide assistance and support to other fire areas or with large fire management activities.  You must be able to be on call, work shifts through weekends and long hours in some situations.
  
As the successful candidate you would typically gain the competencies for this position through the completion of a technical diploma such as in integrated resource management or forest ecosystem technology.  You should possess extensive (five or more years) and progressive fire line experience with forest fire suppression field operations.
