The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) is seeking an energetic and highly motivated Exhibit Designer to work in the Exhibits and Programming Department. The successful candidate will have a strong background in developing museum exhibits for both the digital and physical world. Working with the Manager of Exhibits and Programming they will be responsible for a wide variety of roles to support the museum exhibits and programs, focusing on the development and implementation of a digital approach to exhibits.
The position will be part of a team creating design concepts, producing schematics, layouts and working drawings for the Museum's exhibits. They will determine stylistic approaches, developing content, and supervise implementation. The position will be responsible for researching scientific and cultural information, writing copies for exhibits and programming documents, and presenting this content as a public exhibit. The position will also review and upgrade the Museum's website. The focus of this position will be to integrate more digital technology within the Museum's physical and cyber presence.
The successful candidate must have knowledge and ability in the use of InDesign, Pagemaker, Illustrator, Acrobat, PhotoShop, with experience in Sketch Up, Flash, HTML and a basic understanding of web programming will be an asset. The successful candidate will be comfortable with new technologies, quick to learn and always experimenting. They will thrive in a co-operative team environment.
The competencies required for this position are typically obtained through a four year science, applied science, fine arts or design degree, or equivalent experience combined with at least 3 years working as an exhibit designer, a strong background in graphic design and strong computer knowledge.
