Description

Research Assistant to contribute to all project activities at the Swift Current Agri-ARM Research site.  Typical requirements for this position would be obtained through completion of a Masters of Science in Agriculture or a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.  Applicants must be eligible for membership as a professional agrologist with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists.  The successful individual will have a healthy knowledge of multiple crops and their agronomic requirements for southwest Saskatchewan.  Projects involve variety trials, agronomy trials, header trials, nursery trials, and Industry sponsored projects.  Candidates must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently when required.  A farm background with experience operating farm machinery is preferred.  Ability to liaise effectively with industry, researchers, and producers is an asset.  Individuals should have experience in oral and written communication; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to coordinate labour and perform other related duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A.  Conduct applied research and demonstrate projects and promote the adoption of new technology, crops, and agronomics in the brown soil zone of southwest Saskatchewan.
The successful individual must:

1.   Develop, plan, organize, and conduct applied research and demonstration projects.
2.   Be responsible for coordinating human and material resources.
3.   Operate, calibrate, and maintain all machinery required to conduct field scale plots.
4.   Collect, analyze, and report information in a precise and organized manner.
5.   Consult with producers, industry, and agricultural professionals.
    
B.  Participate in workshops and field days.  The successful individual must:
    
1.   Present project findings.
2.   Help organize promotional activities from winter workshops to large scale field days.
3.   Deliver effective presentations to producers, professionals and industry partners.
