The Ta-Wa-Si Wilderness Coordinator position is an exciting opportunity to incorporate your passion for the outdoors with recreational programming in Reginas inner city. The majority of your responsibilities will be creating, preparing for, and leading camping trips around Saskatchewan. The remainder of your time will be spent helping to facilitate recreational games, crafts and cultural activities for youth ages 6-13 at the YMCAs Ta-Wa-Si school sites. The successful candidate must be a positive role model and driven to empower youth through various leadership development activities, and self cultivating outdoorsman ship.
The successful candidate will exhibit a high level of organizational aptitude, creativity and an awareness of the overall YMCA mandate. Empowering youth and building trusting relationships with program participants and parents is an integral part of the site coordinator position. Previous experience working with kids and planning activities is essential. The successful candidate will act as a role model to program participants, and possess an inspiring and motivated approach to working with children and people. First aid is an asset as well as knowledge of aboriginal culture and the specific needs of Reginas core community. A valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle is mandatory for this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and execution of camping trips (including all equipment, transportation, logistics, budgeting, obtaining sufficient waivers from parents, etc.)
Selection of youth to go on out-trips from Ta-Wa-Si Recreation sites
A support staff for the YMCAs Ta-Wa-Si Recreation sites
Hours: 35/wk for July & August (with the possibility for future employment in the Fall)
