Our Summer Student would be responsible, in tandem
with the Childrens programmer, for the
preparation, operation and reporting for the TD
Summer Reading Program at Swift Current Public
Library. Ideally our student would have
experience in teaching and working with students.
Our Summer program runs three programs a week
including Story Time, Rhyme Time and Baby Steps
and the programming endeavours to serve the needs
of our young patron base reaching from ages three
months to school aged. Our student plans reading
materials, helps with creation of crafts, leads
youth in programming and works behind the scenes
to prep but also to help lead our permanent staff.
The Summer Reading Program in its many
incarnations are the most attended programs
yearly. We were very pleaded with our student
last year, who was an education student at the
University of Regina.
Supervision and Mentoring Plan:
Under the direct guidance of our Summer
Student by the Childrens Programmer the student
will have the opportunity to learn programming for
all ages and individuals as is represented in The
TD Summer Program. The student will plan and
organize our opening and closing parties, both
attended by over 50 last year. The student also
needs to guide the remainder of the full and part
time staff in their roles for these opening and
closing parties. All of the initiatives of the
Student will be overseen by our Children's
Programmer and she will offer great suggestions
and lead learning in skills for the Student.
Our student will learn what is required to
create a lesson plan for an event and to then
implement said plan.
Desired Level of Education of the Student:
Some Post Secondary Preferably in K-8 Education
The interaction with the children in tandem with
the planning and reporting skills are tentemount
to this position.
