The MEND Exercise Leaders primary responsibility is to successfully deliver 18 MEND Exercise sessions for children 7-13 years of age. The Exercise Leader uses fun, games-based, non-competitive activities to engage the participants in physical exercise to boost self-confidence and improve fitness level.
Main Responsibilities
In this position you will be responsible for a wide range of activities including, but not limited to the following:
Required to commit to approximately 42 hours per MEND ten-week program, which includes:
Facilitate 17 x 1 hour exercise sessions with time for set up and clean up.
Participate in measurement sessions as part of Healthy Growth Checks
The Exercise Leader is required to conduct accurate YMCA Step Test to assess participants fitness level.
Required to attend the equivalent of 3 days of paid training in Saskatoon (August 23&24, September 21).
Winter Program Dates:
Winter Program will begin January 2015.
Working with groups of children with the ability to engage and motivate children to participate in games-based activities
Experience in working with children between the ages of 7-13 and their families
Work with diverse populations
Education and Qualifications:
Prefer individuals with studies or a background in the area of sport, fitness and recreation
Must attend 1 day of SPARK Training and 2 days of MEND 7-13 theory training. The Exercise Leader must pass the post training assessment before they run the MEND program
Must have a current First Aid/CPR Certificate
Successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal records check (including vulnerable sector) prior to start of employment.
