Duties and responsibilities:
The Employment Specialist will provide guidance and direction to individuals with disabilities/employment barriers to assist people in achieving their goals of long term community employment. As part of their role, the Employment Specialist will provide follow up support to employers and employees to ensure employment retention. Duties include:
-Provide guidance, direction and support to individuals with disabilities or employment barriers to assist them in preparing for, obtaining and maintaining competitive employment
-Provide on the job training, strategies and supports to assist individuals to build independent work skills
-Develop and maintain positive working relationships with employers and community support agencies
-Empower job seekers with appropriate work related skills and behaviours in order to build independence and community inclusion
-Work collaboratively with the Partners in Employment team as well as other community service providers
-Perform administrative duties, including file recordings, statistics, appraisals, plans and database entries
Qualifications:
-Degree in a relevant area of study( Psychology, Sociology, Social Work ) and 2 years related experience
-Knowledge and understanding of issues pertaining to education, training and employment that people with disabilities may encounter
-Ability to work effectively with job seekers, employers, referral agents, colleagues and public contacts
-Effective written and verbal communication, problem solving, time management and organizational skills
-Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
-Valid Class 5 Drivers License and reliable vehicle
