Description

Under the direction of the Payroll Supv, provides a complete range of payroll services.
(1) Processes bi-weekly/hourly payroll for the Regina Police Service by calculating gross pay, setting up deductions, maintaining records, reconciling payroll.
(2) Batches/posts entries for new hires, terminations, direct deposits, position changes, accounting codes and overtime.
(3) Determines and implements merit increases.
(4) Verifies and audits annual leave including entitlements, determining combined service dates and advises employees.    
(5) Verifies and calculates employee time bank balances.
(6) Calculates Statutory Holiday entitlement, shift differential, accumulated time, superior duty and 13 hour credits.
(7) Records and reports time in attendance and audits overtime according to collective agreements.
(8) Prepares verification of income, Record of Employment and documents for payment and deduction of clothing and cleaning allowances, telephone, gym lockers, etc.
(9) Creates detailed spreadsheets for internal and external use.
(10) Develop and maintain documentation of department process and procedures.
(11) Perform related duties as required.
Competencies:
(1) Grade 12 or Grade 12 equivalent and Level 1 of the Certified Payroll Manager Program or a two year diploma in Business Administration.
(2) Two years experience in a computerized payroll environment.
(3) Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the legislative framework surrounding them.
(4) Knowledge of various Association agreements and clauses affecting compensation.
(5) The ability to design and utilize spreadsheets and databases, above average accuracy calculation skills and abilities.
(6) Minimum typing speed 55 w.p.m.
(7) Demonstrated ability to prioritize and pay attention to detail in high volume work situations.
