Description

To provide leadership and management within the Library systems & Information Technology (LS&IT) unit to ensure smooth and effective operations and contributions to library projects.

Reporting to the Head of LS&IT, the Operations Manager works closely with unit colleagues, library branch/unit heads and project teams, as well as other campus units. The work is intellectually complex, unstructured, and of a highly specialized nature that is unique to the library and information sector.  The work requires the ability to negotiate boundaries and manage complex and difficult issues to achieve positive outcomes. The work also requires a proactive and collaborative approach in a complex, unionized, academic/service environment. Effective professional relationships that support collaboration and problem solving are essential for success in this position. The incumbent uses their discretion and judgment to set their own priorities to meet deadlines. This position requires creativity, optimism and persistence in finding solutions to satisfy the needs of stakeholders, both internal and external, including library system vendors. This role requires the incumbent to effectively establish and build relationships with a number and wide variety of stakeholders across the library, the university, and the library vendor/supplier market. Frequent attendance at meetings within the Library and on campus committees is required, as is occasional travel and occasional work outside of normal University hours.
