Under the supervision of the Community Support Program Supervisor, this position promotes and ensures the success of the Community Support Officer Program by engaging in highly visible patrols that reassure community members including local businesses, and by coordinating with community support organizations and Saskatoon Police Service.
- Patrols on foot within identified areas of
the City of Saskatoon to provide a familiar, highly visible and uniformed presence.
- Establishes and facilitates relationships with
local businesses, residents and community support
organizations in order to be aware of potential
issues and collaborate in potential solutions.
- Assists community members at risk in accessing
relevant supports such as food, shelter, health
care, addictions and crisis counseling.
- Responds to requests regarding panhandling,
loitering, public drunkenness and other related
activities and is responsible for bylaw
enforcement.
Requirements:
Candidate should have a degree in Social Work,
Psychology, Sociology or Criminal Justice or
equivalent combination of education and
experience. Candidate should have a minimum of 3
years experience performing outreach work and/or
working in the human services field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability in developing effective
relationships with the public, co-workers,
business and community support agencies
- Ability to interpret various issues, solve
problems, and make effective decisions
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties
- Experience with conflict resolution including
mediation and negotiation
- Knowledge of the issues related to poverty,
mental health, addictions, homelessness, etc.
- Considerable knowledge of community resource
agencies
- Willingness to conduct bylaw enforcement
