DESCRIPTION:
Provide after school/year round nutrition, cultural, literacy and community inclusion programming for youth in a caring, safe and respectful environment. This position will collaborate closely with Youth Program Support Workers and Cultural Advisors.
SCHEDULE:
After school, some evenings and some weekend programming. Hours are dependent on available funding.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and participate in a variety of enriching and engaging activities with school-aged children according to a set schedule
- Assist in maintaining a high standard of health and safety at all times
- Follow policies and procedures as set out by the organization
- Participation in regularly scheduled meetings
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Experience working with children and youth is an asset, but employer is willing to train
- Ability to supervise 10 - 15 children and youth with support staff during activities, field trips and special events
- Good computer and literacy skills
- Ability to plan and organize program activities and events
- Work well with others and in a team environment
- Present self as a reliable, trustworthy and positive role model
- Knowledge of Aboriginal history and ability to display cultural sensitivity
- Ability to speak Cree is an asset
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Criminal Record Check and Vulterable Sector Check, including Child Abuse Registry Check
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle for transporting participants
