Wesley United Church is seeking a mature, trusting and open minded individual to act as Youth Coordinator (YC). The YC will engage in a relational ministry with children and youth, focusing on middle years & high school age with programming development and leadership. The work of the YC will foster a church environment which supports inclusion of children & youth. The successful candidate will provide mentorship, act as a role model, be approachable, be respectful, be open to varying beliefs and perspectives, and be able to carry on discussions in a caring and nurturing manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- With the Christian Education (CE) Division and the minister having primary responsibility for children's and youth ministry; develop and implement goals for children's and youth ministry that align with the theology, values and mission of Wesley.
- With the support of the CE Division and the designated minister, design, plan, organize and lead middle and high school age youth programs, including regular meetings.
- Offer leadership and participate in other children's and youth programming, events and activities as initiated by self or the CE Division.
- Meet regularly with the minister to report on activities and collaborate on future plans.
- Assist the minister in leading youth confirmation classes (if available).
- Attend the meetings of the CE Division.
- Attend Sunday morning worship service at Wesley.
- Perform other duties as negotiated with the CE Division.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with youth or children is an asset.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Drivers license is required with access to vehicle an asset.
- Criminal record check/vulnerable sectors check is required.
The tentative start date is mid-September 2014, working approx 15 to 20 hours/month which will vary throughout the month and the year.
