The gallery educator reports to the Director/Curator. The gallery educator plans, organizes, implements & evaluates education and public programming activities.
Program:
Develop, schedule & conduct in-house school curriculum based tours.
Educational based programs for visual arts in the forms of seminars, workshops, classes, lectures, demonstrations, etc.
Programs must include something for all age groups including elderly individuals and those with intellectual disabilities.
Coordinate, advertise, & hang student exhibitions.
Plan & administrate summer day camp program.
Supervise summer student education assistants.
Provide budgetary requirements for the gallery education & educational grants.
Public Relations:
Act as a liaison between school boards, educational facilities & MAG.
Develop & maintain appropriate contacts with peer professional groups.
Provide monthly reports.
Facility:
Maintain stock & educational supplies.
Maintain clean & orderly studio.
Assist with a variety of other tasks including installation & striking of exhibition, painting, cleaning, special events, fundraisers, and other related duties.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Major in Visual Arts OR Bachelor of Education, with emphasis on visual art or gallery education, or equivalent (or similar).
Experience working with children, youth, adults, elderly individuals, & those with intellectual disabilities.
Demonstrates interest and involvement in the arts generally, plus a desire to provide all ages with an opportunity to appreciate the visual arts.
Strength and mobility to perform required physical duties, ability to work on a ladder.
Good written & verbal communication & organizational skills.
Specifications:
35 hours per week Tuesday-Saturday.
Work hours & times will vary based on program needs.
Must be available to work some evenings & weekends, as required.
