BrightStart! is a program that provides support services to high-needs, vulnerable immigrant and refugee mothers with preschool aged children. BrightStart! gives an opportunity to new mothers to improve their language skills while caring for their babies, and to learn how to provide the essentials of emotional, cognitive and social development for their children. The program is designed to stimulate the love of learning, increase self-confidence and a feeling of self-worth in both the new mother and the baby. It also aims to enrich the mother/baby relationship. The program will be offered on Fridays morning from 9:30am-11:30am, plus three hours weekly of prep time, reporting, etc. Potential start date of program is October 17th.
Skills Required and Duties
Strong English reading, writing and speaking capabilities
Previous experience working in a childcare field with immigrant and refugee families
Plan, implement and teach educational lessons and activities for mothers and their preschool aged children ranging in age from newborn to five years
Ensure the environment and atmosphere is conducive to safe, enjoyable activity
Maintain clean, organized equipment and materials
Plan educational field trips for participants
Complete attendance sheets and evaluation forms, as required
Prepare a monthly and final report for the Board and the Executive Director
Perform other related duties as assigned
Current Criminal Record check with vulnerable sector search is mandatory
