Odyssey, an initiative of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, is a work experience that gives you the opportunity to travel Canada, make a difference in the lives of others, and share your culture!
From the beginning of September to the end of May, you will work as a language assistant in an elementary, secondary or postsecondary school in another region of the country. (English positions are available in Quebec and New Brunswick. French positions are available in all provinces and territories.)
Under the supervision of the teacher or instructor, your tasks may include the following:
- preparing classroom activities that focus on learning language and culture
- encouraging students to participate in oral communication activities
- motivating students to learn the targeted language (French or English)
- leading and participating in cultural activities
Important Information
- 25 hours/week
- Salary of $18,500 (~$20/hour)
- Travel allowances
- Paid training in Quebec City
Eligibility Criteria
1) For English applicants: English must be your first (dominant) language. You must be proficient in both oral and written English.
For French applicants: French must be your first (dominant) language. You must be proficient in both oral and written French.
2) You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Those studying in Canada on student visas are not eligible.
3) You must have completed (within the last 10 years) at least one year of postsecondary studies by June of the coming year or, in Quebec, have at least your diploma of college studies (D.C.S.) or have completed one year of university.
