Provide essential Nurse Practitioner physical and mental health services within their scope of practice
These services include, but are not limited to the following:
Performing comprehensive physical and mental health assessments and synthesizing data from multiple sources to make a diagnosis of disease and disorder.
Practice autonomously, offering the full scope of primary health care, (including mental health services).
Consulting with physicians or other health care professionals when the patients condition requires care beyond the scope of Nurse Practitioner practice.
Prescribing medications in accordance with Clients Drug Formulary, ordering x-rays, ultrasounds and lab tests in accordance with the Nurse practitioner regulations of the province of practice.
Performing complete wellness and periodic physical/mental health examinations including any education/supportive counseling/prescriptive and follow up requirements.
Collaborating on the management of offenders with chronic illnesses including mental illnesses.
Referring patients to other providers or programs.
Implementing strategies to promote health and prevent illness.
Functioning as a member of an inter-disciplinary team in the provision of comprehensive primary physical/mental health care services.
Manage all aspects of healthcare services for those patients under his/her direct care.
Document health assessment, treatment, and consultations in the patients health care record.
Consult with the Chief Health Services regarding requirements for medical supplies and equipment. Any requests for equipment and supplies must be submitted to, and approved by, the Chief Health Services.
