Description

The City of Weyburn is a dynamic and progressive municipality located in the heart of SE Saskatchewan. The City has a population of over 11,000 and a solid economic and community foundation upon which new opportunities are continuously built.
This position will play a key role in the growth & development of the City while ensuring the creation of a thriving, inclusive, attractive, vibrant and sustainable community. This position reports directly to the City Manager.

Responsibilities:
-Acts as the liaison to internal & external stakeholders & provides direction for the development and facilitation of strategies & initiatives on all matters relevant to the City's development, land use, building and housing policies & activities;
-Oversees & directs the development and implementation of comprehensive land use plans, tax incentive policies, & programs to encourage housing and land use development;
-Initiates strategic & business planning processes, action plans, accountability frameworks, and performance reporting systems for the department. This includes identifying needs in the planning area & determines and implements standards & best practices;
-Ensuring proper legislative procedures are followed in reviewing development applications, zoning amendments, amendments to the statutory planning framework, subdivision applications & appeals;
-Advises and consults with Council on matters of public & corporate policy/strategy;
-Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge & Specific Training:
-Post secondary degree (a Master's degree would be an asset) in Planning (or related field) recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners.
-Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
-Knowledge of current standards, policies, procedures, legislation, & trends affecting municipal planning & land use.
-Knowledge of the functions, principles, policies & governance structure of municipal government.
-Minimum five years experience.
