Description

Under direction of the Manager of the Environmental Health, Population Health Unit, the Public Health Inspector Trainee provides a variety of field related services including compliance inspections and related documentation, sampling, monitoring, completion of surveys, development of educational material, drafting of reports and specific project assignments. This position is a training position and as such does not have status as a 'Public Health Officer', as per The Public Health Act, 1994. This position does not have authority to enter premises or facilities without consent and does not have authority to carry out enforcement activities.

To qualify you will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Enrolment in (or recent completion of) a degree program in Environmental Health as recognized by the Board of Certification of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
- Ability to learn and apply technical knowledge in the field of public health inspections/environmental health.
- Ability to learn and apply specific public health legislation, guidelines and policy to facilities.
- Ability to learn and utilize sampling, monitoring and test equipment commonly utilized in public health inspection programs.
- Ability to complete assignments in a timely, efficient manner.
- Ability to complete technical reports within specific assignment.
- Ability to plan, schedule and utilize work/training time effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as a productive member of a multidisciplinary team in a workplace environment.
- Proficient in the use of computers.
- Ability to travel by small aircraft and by vehicle on remote gravel roads with overnight stays
- Hold a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent.
