Description

Duties:
Erect new or repair existing high voltage transmission power lines.  Inspect electric power transmission lines- steel towers, steel monopoles and wood poles from vehicles, on foot, or from aircraft. Inspect for damage to wood poles, cross arms, grounds, X-braces, loose bolts, broken or flashed insulators, missing or damaged vibration dampers, damaged or missing spacer dampers, damaged conductors or overhead ground wires, bent or missing steel members, and missing cotter keys. Install and replace poles, cross arms, line hardware, lightning arresters, fiber optic, and auxiliary equipment. String conductor, optical ground wire (OPGW), and fiber optic cable from structure to structure; splice conductor when broken; replace poles; and work on energized lines requiring the use of hotline tools and bare hand techniques.   It is expected that candidates have experience in the diverse stringing methodologies. Repair requiring power outages which are scheduled and coordinated by others but must be met.

Requirements:
Experience working within HSE regulations. Climb transmission structures averaging 65 feet, but up to 500 feet on occasion, and communication towers up to 400 feet.
Ability to do journeyman lineman work constructing and maintaining high voltage transmission power lines and related equipment, without more than normal supervision.
Knowledge of electrical line construction, operations, maintenance, and technical practices of a journeyman lineman.
Ability to use electrical drawings and specifications, and to interpret instructions.
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with the job of journeyman lineman.
Ability to work safely; knowledge of safe work practices.
Able to operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
