Description

Working at our Sask Valley Unit located near Rosthern, SK the Unit Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the farrow to finishing barn.

Responsibilities Include:
- Provide direct supervision to all staff in the unit
- Provide required administrative duties, including work schedules, marketing documentation, payroll timesheets, evaluations, etc.
- Provide training, mentoring, delegation of work and guidance to all staff to ensure SOPs are followed and implemented
- Ensure production and marketing targets are met in the unit
- Coordinate movement of pigs throughout unit & loading/transport of animals
- Ensure Biosecurity is followed by all employees and visitors/contract workers
- Ensure Animal Well Being Code of Conduct is maintained and pigs are provided sufficient nutrition and water
- Coordinate maintenance in and outside of barn, including manure management, ventilation, feed systems, penning/slats, and general building maintenance
- Coordinate yard upkeep and snow removal
- Understand OH&S regulations associated with the Unit and promote the use of personal protective equipment, safe work procedures and company policies
- Ensure incidents at unit are documented and reported
- Respond to alarm call-outs at the unit
- Order supplies as required
- Other duties as required


Skill requirements
- Certificate/Diploma in Animal Science or Veterinary Technology preferred
- 2 years experience in a hog barn preferred
Strong personnel management skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good time management
- A strong work ethic
- An empathetic nature towards animals
- Minimum basic computer skills
