1. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director, Newo Yotina Friendship Centre, the Resolution Health Support Worker position is responsible to provide emotional, spiritual, physical and mental support to Indian Residential School Survivors, their families and communities through the application process of the common experience payment and the independent assessment process.
2. EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Must have a diploma or certificate and specialized training in the human service field or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Must be willing to travel and must possess a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle, and must submit a current criminal record check.
Has/have experience working with Aboriginal mental health and wellness issues;
Has/have the capacity and flexibility to meet the emotional health support needs of potentially large numbers of former IRS students in a variety of locations;
Provide(s) information as required to NYFC that will meet the reporting requirements;
4. EXPERIENCE
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the human service field, supported by the knowledge and understanding of First Nations language, culture, traditions and social issues, Indian Residential Schools and the impact on individuals and families and knowledge and skills in healing methodologies.
5. WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Requirements:
Extensive travel in city of Regina and possible surrounding communities in all weather conditions while ensuring personal safety
Work irregular or extended hours to complete special requests and/ or projects
Environmental Requirements:
Must manage a number of people, priorities and projects at one time, and may have to respond to emergencies or crisis situations
The environment requires excellent organizational, time management and stress management skills
At times, may be required to carry out assigned roles and responsibilities as relevant to operational requirements
