Description

Successful candidates will be responsible for the delivery of a culturally relevant service for the Treaty Four First Nation members residing in Regina.  The First Nations Helper Program will assist the needs of Urban Treaty Four First Nation families involved in Child Protection matters including liaison with the Ministry of Social Services.

The First Nations Family Helper, under the supervision of First Nations Family Helpers Supervisor, will provide a holistic approach to the wellness of the child and the family, based on First Nations Culture and Traditions, the guidance and involvement of Elders, and support of family and community members.  Helpers will work in conjunction with Elders, Local Child and Family Services and Community Based Programs to provide early intervention to families at risk.

Qualifications:
Must possess a Bachelor of Indian Social Work/ Bachelor of Social work or four yr Undergraduate Universirty degree in a related discipline.

Skills:
Knowledge of Cultural beliefs, values, perspectives and principles; Understanding of mediation process and methods; Ability to plan and conduct discussions which may be sensitive and emotional; Knowledge of child development and the impact of abuse and neglect, disability and other special needs including attachment issues as it relates to child welfare services.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to understand family dynamics; conduct genogram/family clan/tribe research; Must possess excellant culturally appropriate interview skills; Demonstarte ability for critical management in ambigious or unfavorable situations.
Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle;
Must be able to work weekends and some evenings; Must be able to sign an 'Oath of Confidentiality';
