Mining Industry Pre-Employment Program Instructor

The Mining Industry Pre-Employment Program (MIPP) Instructor will be responsible for delivering the SIIT program; this program is designed to help students develop an awareness of career opportunities in the mining sector with a focus on potash mining. The incumbent will organize and implement the curriculum. The incumbent must keep current with developments in their subject area, instructional resources and methods. These include the following areas of accountabilities:
o Deliver courses relating to: employment readiness, academic refresher, communications, career action planning; overview of mining industry, and basic hands-on skill development in the shop
o Complete course-required materials including evaluations, attendance records and course evaluations
o Use appropriate methods of recording student progress within set time frames
o Ensure a positive, and inclusive work and learning environment
o Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures
o Maintain classroom and shop discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action
o Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
Post secondary certification with related work experience in the trades or mining industry. Knowledge of a First Nations language or culture, experience teaching Aboriginal Adults and knowledge of the trades or mining industry in the area would be considered assets.
