Description

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band-Health Services Department is now inviting applications for 1 ? Community Support Worker to assist the Prevention & Recovery Team.  The Community Support Worker contributes to the Heath Team through health advocacy, health prevention and health promotion and works under the supervision of the Prevention & Recovery Coordinator.  This Position requires living a healthy lifestyle and being familiar with the Woodland Cree Culture.  The main purpose of this position is to promote health traditional practices and assist the health team in providing health programming within their communities.

Duties:
-Assist in planning and organizing annual events such as cultural camps, planting and harvesting community gardens, berry picking expeditions, trips for the elderly and traditional outings for the elderly.
-Assessing the health concerns of band members and being an advocate and referring to the appropriate agency.
-Assisting the elderly and disabled to live independently at home as long as possible by providing transportation for shopping, chopping wood, shoveling snow, hunting and gathering food.
-Work closely with the Health Team by assisting in home visits, providing support, awareness; reinforce teaching, interpreting and advising the Health Team in areas of concern.
-Act as an interpreter between English and Cree speaking clients; health care providers and accompany clients when necessary to appointments.
-Other duties as assigned by Immediate Supervisor or designate;

Qualifications:
-Minimum of Grade 10, preferably Grade 12 GED, combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered;
-Excellent verbal, written communication and public relations skills;
-Ability to speak Cree, and knowledge of the Cree Culture is a definite asset;
-Satisfactory Criminal, Child Abuse & Drivers Record Checks;
-Must have a valid drivers license;
