As part of the Saskatchewan HIV Provincial Strategy, the Saskatoon Infectious Disease Care Network (SIDCN) is seeking a Community Coordinator to work in partnership with the Positive Living Program, community partners, physicians, and research staff to further develop the Saskatoon Peer Support Network.
Position Requirements
-Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) or equivalent.
-A valid Saskatchewan drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle.
-Preference will be given to individuals with:
o Experience working with vulnerable populations.
o Knowledge of HIV/HCV disease transmission, prevention, and care.
o An understanding of harm reduction strategies and their role in HIV/HCV prevention.
o An understanding of the social determinants of health, addictions, and mental health issues and how these relate to the risk and transmission of HIV/HCV in the community.
o Knowledge of community resources.
o An understanding of culturally safe practices.
Responsibilities
Program Development and Delivery
-Develop and deliver flexible and responsive programming aimed at promoting peer leadership for people affected by HIV and HCV.
-Maintain and support existing peer support groups.
-Facilitate one-to-one connections between those living with HIV and/or HCV when appropriate.
-Provide emotional support to individuals in a way that encourages them to become engaged in care.
-Develop peer education and training strategies and materials in collaboration with the Positive Living Program to facilitate peer mentorship programming.
-Collaborate with a range of community organizations.
Program Evaluation and Research
-Assist in the development and implementation of a peer project evaluation.
-Assist in the planning and delivery of various community-based research projects.
