Working closely with school administration, staff, parents, and First Nations & Mtis organizations and service providers, the Aboriginal Student Achievement Coordinator (ASAC) will provide leadership in developing school-wide programs and initiatives that will result in increased school representation, achievement, attendance, retention and graduation for First Nations, Mtis and Inuit (FNMI) students. The primary duties of the ASAC position fall into the areas of Relationship-Building (advocate for FNMI students and parents/caregivers), Community Engagement and Partnerships (support students and families), Leadership (create culturally responsive school environment), and Data Collection and Monitoring (use data to support improvement initiatives).
Qualifications:
Commitment to ideals and principles of Catholic education
A post secondary degree in a related human services discipline
A minimum of five years working in the area of community development particularly in collaboration with First Nations and Mtis communities and organizations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Grant/proposal writing experience
Strong commitment and the ability to articulate how to work with youth from strength based, cultural and appreciative philosophies
Ability to speak or understand a First Nations, Mtis, or Inuit language an asset
Knowledge of First Nations and Mtis history, cultures, and family systems
Strong partnership development competencies with the ability to articulate what a successful community engagement strategy could be
Strong knowledge of community partners, service providers, First Nations and Mtis organizations, immigrant organizations, and private/public sector programs
Ability to make strong contributions to an integrated team of professionals as well as provide leadership in the area of community engagement, culturally responsive school practices, data management, securing funding to support school initiatives
