Specific Responsibilities:
1. Animation and Enrichment of Exhibits. The Science Explorer works to engage the visitor in discovery and science exploration. This requires awareness of the visitor, imagination and creativity as well as familiarity with some scientific principles.
2.Demonstrations, Day Camps, Camp Ins and Community Programming. The Science Explorer conducts pre-arranged stage shows, demonstrations, leads day camps, and assists in the delivery of school programs, the purpose of which is to educate and entertain visitors.
Provincial Outreach Programming: Travel throughout the province or Regina may be required for GO! Science Outreach Programming.
4. Exhibit Maintenance and Evaluation. Science Explorers maintains a clean environment on the exhibit floor, as well as monitoring exhibits for effectiveness and needed repairs or improvements.
5. Education and Development. The Science Explorer continually develops their knowledge about science and visitor education by attending staff training sessions, reading available material and expressing innovative ideas.
6. Animal Care. Science Explorers are typically responsible for the daily feeding and cleaning of the Science Centres resident animals. Training will be provided for handling animals.
Qualifications and Assets
Strong customer service skills with a positive attitude towards co-workers and visitors
First Aid/CPR Certified would be an asset
Experience teaching or instructing children and adults
Preference given to applicants with Education and/or Science Background with some university or technical training
Strong curiosity and interest in science
Two position are pending funding from Young Canada Works summer student grant.
