- Provide training in areas of child development, nutrition, and health care methods, hygiene, self and family development,
- Assist in short and long term vocational planning
- Teach a life and living skills program, and perform home visits to provide living skills advice
- Assist in obtaining housing, and provide support to landlords by assisting in improving tenants ability to follow rental criteria
- Advocacy and liaison between other agencies
- Provide family, individual and group guidance in the following areas:
- Family wellness
- Alcohol and drug abuse
- Assistance to Teens with problems
- Personal and Financial advice
- Suicide intervention
- Work with Kikinahk Headstart and Prenatal families and our Partner Agencies in providing social supports and group information and training sessions.
- When required, refer clients for professional counseling or to other agencies.
- Prepare monthly reports for management
- Provide other services within Kikinahk's mandate as required
Requirements for this position include:
- Certificate or Degree in Social Work OR Relevant Demonstrated Experience
- Experience in working with families, teen mothers, and delivery of above services. Applicants will have to demonstrate that they have this experience
- Commitment to the mandate of the Friendship Centre
- Great written, verbal, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with Native culture. While not necessary, the ability to speak Cree would be a definite asset.
- Good communication and reporting skills including being able to work comfortably with MS Word and Excel.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver's license Please provide copy with application (no exceptions)
- Negative Criminal Record and Child Abuse registry check.
- Successful applicant must pass a medical examination declaring them free of communicable diseases.
- Northern residency.
