Work task & responsibilities:
A. Take the appropriate National certification for basic coaching skills in the sport;
B. Assist the Head Coach in:
1. Planning, development and execution of summer on-water and on-land programs;
2. Coaching athletes;
3. Designing and executing team-building activities;
4. Administrative duties and computer tasks;
5. Planning and developing the Yorkton Developmental Regatta;
6. Communicating to parents/caregivers of youth participants;
7. Organization and attendance at Regattas (competitions);
8. Equipment maintenance;
9. Operating rescue boat correctly and safely (complete Boat Operating Licence);
10. Basic First Aid treatment and water safety;
11. Attend meetings with Head Coach on behalf of YCKC as required;
12. Be an ambassador of YCKC and model YCKCs values in daily conduct.
C. Because Sprint Canoe/Kayaking is a sport that allows people of various ranges of physical fitness and physiques to be active in a safe, welcoming, and accepting environment, the Assistant Coach must demonstrate a high level of compassion, understanding, patience, respect, and knowledge to be an effective coach.
D. An assistant coach will have a receptive attitude to ongoing training and learning. It is important that our coaches remain current with respect to training methodologies, safety measures, fitness and dietary information, and communication skills. This willingness to upgrade in skills and knowledge is then modelled to our athletes.
Coaches are expected to follow the YCKC Code of Conduct and the coaching conducts of the provincial and national organizations.
