Full-time/Term Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor

The Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Instructor will be responsible for delivering the SIIT program The HEO program concentrates on hands-on skill development with approximately 80% of the program spent in the field and on the machines, and 20% in the classroom. The incumbent must keep current with developments in their subject area, instructional resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities to suit the individual needs of their students.
These include the following broad areas of accountabilities:
o Deliver courses relating to: safety, maintenance, and a variety of HEO fundamentals
o Complete all course-required materials including evaluations, attendance records and course evaluations
o Use appropriate methods of recording student progress
o Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
o Adhere to academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures
o Maintain classroom and shop discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action
o Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Extensive knowledge and work experience in Heavy Equipment Operating. Knowledge of a First Nations language or culture and experience teaching Aboriginal Adults and would be considered assets.
