Responsibilities:
-Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive biological safety program including biosecurity to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, provincial and municipal regulations and standards such as WHMIS, Public Health Agency of Canada, Transport Canada, Canada Food and Inspection Agency, and Canada Council on Animal Care.
-Interacts and cooperates with committees, responsible for approving research protocols and procedures for the use of bio-hazardous material, human subjects, and animals.
-Identifies occupational safety and health hazards, and develops corresponding control measures.
-Provides guidance and consultation to assess the risk of working with various pathogens.
-Identifies training needs, develops and delivers bio-safety training programs.
-Audits the effectiveness of the bio-safety program and its associated management system.
-Conducts an HSE assessment (general and biological) of research proposals.
-Participates in accident investigations and promotes the reporting of incidents within the facility.
-Compile and maintain confidential HSE data for corporate and compliance purposes.
-Oversees management of CLS laboratories; supervisory responsibilities may be assigned.
-Carries out project work and general HST tasks as directed by the HSE Manager.
