We are seeking a BT Trainee Ideal candidate is passionate about helping children, motivated by making a positive difference in the lives of others, dedicated to implementing effective treatment programs and collecting related data and a desire for continuous growth and learning.
The position is for 18 hours per week in a residential home working one-to-one with a seven year old girl with non-verbal autism.
Position Summary: Under direct supervision complete training to provide individualized intensive behaviour intervention therapy services directly and independently to the child with autism in their home, school and community environments. Assist community members utilizing methods that have been demonstrated through Applied Behaviour Analysis to be effective in developing typical home and community language, social and self-control skills. Provide services that place the highest priority on an ethical regard for the best interests of the child served.
Qualifications:
A University Degree, preferably in Psychology, Communication Disorders, Special Education, Elementary Education, or other related field.
Ability to work independently, follow direction and implement ongoing supervisory oversight.
Interest in working with children who have challenging behaviours and developmental disabilities.
Possess the interpersonal skills to be playful, enthusiastic and bring a high level of energy into the family situation; must also be assertive while demonstrating behaviour therapy in an isolated home environment.
Ability to read written treatment directions, collect numeric data and summarize the results by computing and graphing. In addition, strong writing skills to document treatment sessions is required.
Able to drive, possess a valid drivers license with good driving history and have use of an automobile to travel to and from the childs home and transportation of the child as necessary.
