Description

We are looking for an energetic individual to assist in the cataloging, preservation, and digitizing of the permanent collection of our Art Gallery. This comprises archiving and physical organization of artworks, including accessioning, wrapping, cleaning, labeling, researching and photo-documenting each piece. The successful candidate will work alongside the Registrar and Curator to develop a greater understanding of the day-to-day procedures of a professional art gallery.

The position begins on May 11th 2015 and will end on August 28th 2015. The work week runs Monday - Friday. Specific hours are negotiable, but it is a 35-hour week.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A successful candidate with educational or practical experience in art, art history, museology and/or Canadian History would be best fitted for this position. Any previous knowledge of or interest in Contemporary Art is an asset. The candidate should be polite, patient, organized, be able to work with people of varying ages and ethnicities, and sustain excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Windows computer systems, word processing, photo editing software, and email is also important. Web authoring experience or knowledge of museum archiving software would be an asset. A valid driver's license will be required.
    are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
    are legally entitled to work in Canada;
    are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
    have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational institution) in the semester preceding the job;
    intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
