Reporting to the Director of Medical Physics the Physics Assistant assists the Medical Physicists in performing a variety of radiotherapy quality assurance procedures, performing routine dosimetry measurements, maintaining radiation physics measuring equipment and designing and coding computer software.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor Degree in Physics or related discipline
Skills:
Proficiency with a variety of computer systems, software applications and knowledge of computer programming.
Ability to operate a variety of scientific instruments.
Human relations skills required to ensure compliance and promote acceptance through negotiating with staff and/or suppliers where there is a requirement to resolve the conflict or situation.
Ability to effectively communicate factual information both orally and in writing.
Moderate judgment and problem solving skills are required to select the most appropriate action from a variety of alternatives.
Accuracy of fine motor movements required for data entry and performing QA tests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Quality Assurance:
Carries out calibration procedures on radiotherapy equipment, instruments, and radioactive sources as directed.
Measures dose distributions and doses on individual patients as directed.
Performs quality assurance procedures on radiotherapy equipment.
Performs radiation surveys as directed.
Irradiates biological materials as directed.
Assists in the development and introduction of new procedures and techniques.
Maintains log of quality control data.
Maintains inventory of dosimetry equipment.
Computer Systems:
Designs, codes and maintains computer software as required.
Configures and installs software, networks, servers, hardware devices and monitors systems as required.
Orders computer systems and components if necessary.
Documents computer system installations and software as required.
