Description

The REIXS Beamline is a soft X-ray beamline at Canadian Light Source (CLS). The beamline provides photon energies of 90-2000 eV with full polarization control. The high flux, high brilliance beam is delivered into two endstations, for X-ray emission / absorption spectroscopy (XES/XAS) and resonant soft X-ray scattering (RSXS) experiments. A description of the REIXS beamline can be found at http://exshare.lightsource.ca/REIXS/

Responsibilities: Reporting to the REIXS Beamline Scientist, and in cooperation with the REIXS Beamteam led by Alexander Moewes of the University of Saskatchewan and George Sawatzky of the University of British Columbia, the successful applicant will assume primary responsibility for the maintenance, upgrades and operation of the XES endstation as well as assisting in the normal activities of the beamline as a whole. This includes diagnosing problems, providing training and support for beamline users, and developing documentation and protocols for endstation and beamline operation. The applicant will be encouraged to develop her/his own research in their area of interest or in collaboration with members of the beam team.

Qualifications: All applicants are expected to have successfully completed a Ph.D. degree in Physics or in a related scientific discipline. Experience in developing or operating a synchrotron beamline is not a requirement, but a high degree of capability with ultrahigh vacuum system and experiences in X-ray optics and research techniques such as XES, XAS, LEED and RHEED will be a definite plus, as would experience with related data analysis and interpretation. Experience in complex electro-mechanical systems and their control will also be an asset. This position shall be filled by an individual with a clear aptitude for science and instrumentation, and with a desire to participate in an active and exciting science program. Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.
