Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
Bioriginal is a global leader in delivering complete fatty acid solutions to the Food and Nutraceutical industries. Our main office and plant are located on Melville Street in Saskatoon. We also have a biotechnology research lab located in the National Research Council building on campus, where this position will be based.
Duties
-DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, gene cloning
-Heterologous expression of genes in yeast, fatty acid analysis by gas chromatography, enzyme assays
-Sequence analysis
-Plant care (including some weekend watering); emasculating and crossing of plants; experience with wheat and Arabidopsis preferred
-Arabidopsis transformation
-General lab duties including media preparation, maintaining lab consumables, autoclaving waste, etc.
Qualifications
-Bachelors or Masters Degree in Life Science
-Applicants with a technical Diploma will also be considered
-Laboratory experience; molecular biology experience preferred
-Plant science experience preferred
-Able to follow Standard Operating procedures and able to carry out SOP under minimal supervision
-Maintains good records of experimental details and results
-Organized, accurate and detail-oriented
-Self motivated, goal-directed and responsible
-Quick worker capable of working in a high-throughput environment
