Description

Reporting to the Standards Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

1. Review development opportunities, identify and initiate key civil and structural areas for geotechnical firms to evaluate and report on.
2. Assess geotechnical reports, topographical surveys and grading plans completed by others. Verify design requirements have been satisfied in contract documents and/or identify concerns to the team.
3. Lead assigned bulk plant, gas bar and cardlock petroleum project civil works design details and specifications with internal drafting technicians. Set site benchmarks, on-site and off-site elevations, develop grading/drainage plans (ponds, surface and/or connections to storm, culverts, ditches) and specifications for granular and asphalt surfaces, concrete aprons, piles, dewatering and shoring if necessary for municipal approvals, tendering and construction. Apply professional engineer seal if required for permit approvals.
4. Manage assigned civil projects from inception to completion. Develop accurate scope of work, details, tender documents, schedules and cost estimates and work with contractor and consultants to execute projects on time and on budget.
5. Provide the construction and planning team with technical guidance to address civil related issues on projects.  Participate in field reviews and attend construction meetings as needed.
6. Collaborate with customers, consultants, contractors, regulatory and utility agencies to satisfy design requirements and construction compliance. Assist with staff mentoring and development in civil engineering.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Civil Engineering and be eligible or registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGS along with 5-8 years of experience in a related field. Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software will be considered an asset.
