This position provides support and linkages to services to ensure First Nations children grow up in their own culture with the caring family supports they need. Some of the duties assigned to the Prevention Program Coordinator are:
1. Responding to concerns in a culturally sensitive manner.
2. Engaging First Nations children, youth and families, First Nation communities and agency.
3. Creating environment with resources that support community capacity and engage stakeholders that serve the best interest of the child.
In addition to demonstrating warmth, empathy and sincerity, you must have a genuine passion for serving First Nations clients, their families and communities. As Coordinator, you will also be required to demonstrate strong communication skills, (oral, written and presentations), and build supportive relationships in the communities we serve. The successful applicant is also required to travel regularly to First Nations communities in a variety of weather conditions.
QUALITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
A Degree in a social work, human services discipline or other related field;
A minimum of three years experience working with First Nations wellness issues in direct service delivery;
Experience with coordinating special projects, facilitating workshops and training;
Must have a valid Saskatchewan drivers license and reliable vehicle and meet STCs insurance requirements;
Must have a clear current CPIC (Canadian Criminal Records Check), which identifies a vulnerable sectors check;
Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset; and
An understanding of Child & Family Services would be an asset.
