Job Description: GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the Youth Outreach and Addiction Worker is responsible for providing education and counselling services to the residents in the Athabasca Basin. Focusing primarily on youth, the Youth Outreach and Addiction Worker provides community programs to school aged children.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

To implement a range of activities at preventing and/or reducing the incidence of alcohol and drug abuse in the community.

To provide early identification and intervention services for individuals abusing alcohol and drugs.

To provide referral services to individuals in need of residential treatment.

To provide aftercare services to individuals returning from residential treatment.  Helping the clients re-enter their home community, encouraging involvement with the centers programs, and regular follow-up counseling contacts.

Monitor clients behaviour and progress, conducting client-counseling sessions.

Prepare and present lectures, group therapy sessions, life skills activities, and special events.

Counsel individuals, groups and families experiencing alcohol and drug abuse utilizing a variety of methods.

Promote sobriety within the community, in support of the community interagency wellness team.

Develop and implement youth programs.

Plan and deliver educational activities in the school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Certificate in Community Addictions from a recognized program.

Computer skills, typing and office skills.

At least one year sobriety.

Effective interpersonal communication skills.

Self motivated/self directed.

A strong commitment to health prevention, promotion and community development.
