Aboriginal Leadership Coordinator


Department: Community Development
Direct Supervisor: Manager of Community Development


Required Skills and Qualifications:
-    have experience in youth leadership
-    be well connected in the community, able to grow programs through partnerships
-    have the vision and wisdom to incorporate traditional teachings into YMCA programming
-    be committed to accountability and have the administrative background necessary  to ensure all requirements are met
-    be a leader for staff and youth, growing their skills as role models
-    have reliable transportation, a valid drivers license and be available to work flexible hours

    
Key Areas:

Develop an Aboriginal leadership training model/program specific to the needs of the Aboriginal community

Assist in the development of the essential skills, knowledge and abilities of aboriginal youth and young adults in instructing and programming sport, culture or recreation programs

Develop a network with the Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal non-profit organizations to assist on the development of the leadership training model and program.  To encourage their staff to participate in the leadership training program

Coordinate and facilitate focus groups and informal discussions with Aboriginal organizations, local Aboriginal people, Aboriginal youth, and elders to assess the leadership development needs regarding leadership training and development for Aboriginal people in Regina

Create a youth advisory committee to assist in the development and monitoring of the Aboriginal Leadership Training program

Develop positive Aboriginal youth and young adult role models who will have the skills, knowledge and abilities to provide a sport, culture and recreation program within a variety of organizations

Assist in the preparation of program budgets and funding proposals
