Description

The Manager, Safety Resources supports the University of Saskatchewans success by contributing to the overall engagement of employees and students in creating a health and safety culture.  The Manager provides overall leadership, expertise and support to the delivery of health, safety and environment programs, processes and systems.

The Manager reports to the Director, Human Resources (with oversight of Protective Services and Safety Resources) and is a member of a cross-discipline team that collaborates to provide effective solutions for organizational, unit and individual issues.  The Manager leads a team of Consultants and Specialists in the areas of Bio Safety, Chemical, Radiation, Occupational and Environmental Safety, as well as Waste Management.  Furthermore, the Manager provides direct staff support in employee supervision, training, and development, building staff trust and morale, and fostering a positive and results oriented work environment.

The Manager work is unstructured and priorities may shift based on environmental considerations. This position requires the ability to negotiate boundaries and manage projects and positive outcomes. The work requires collaboration with colleagues in Human Resources and other units. The work may be stressful given the high volume, resistance to change across the organization, complex problems, tight deadlines and seemingly competing interests. This position requires proactive and creative approaches in a complex, unionized, academic environment.
